Introduction to my Blog!

I’ve considered writing a blog for some time now, but I didn’t know where to get started.

My favorite hobbies are dancing, reading, and writing, so I always thought that blogging would be a good fit for me. My idea started after reading various dancer’s blogs, and grew when I started blogging for my new non-profit, Christian organization (website here, blog here), but it wasn’t until a good friend of mine began her blog about dancing that finally made me do something with my growing idea. (Find my friend’s blog at http://dancinginwords.com/.)

I sat down one day recently during quarantine (due to COVID-19) and wrote all my ideas for my blog down. My blog’s content is mostly going to consist of things related to dance, but I also want to share about my faith, hobbies, and other things. I already have 17 ideas for future posts, and am coming up with new ideas all the time.

Many of my posts will have relatable struggles that we face as people, dancers, and Christians, and along with those struggles, I’m hoping to offer encouragement and advice. I will also be writing about my experiences and stories, which is what I love to read in other people’s blogs.

This blog is a new experience for me and I’m so excited to be sharing it with you. I hope that you enjoy reading my posts and find them helpful!

What to Pack in a Dance Bag

Since dancers around the world are preparing for a new year of dance right now, I thought it’d be appropriate timing to write a blog post about what to pack in your dance bag.  Common or Important Items To start with, having extra dance apparel and shoes is the most important to a lot of people. Most of my friends keep old dance wear in their bags, such as a leotard that is very basic, or a pair of tights that have ripped. These are kept just in case something is forgotten so they have a backup. Next is hair stuff. The most common things to keep on hand are bobby pins, hair bands, a brush, comb, hair nets and hairspray. You can also keep headbands, scrunchies, or other fun stuff. The most important to me personally is deodorant. Whether it’s an offhand day when I forget to put it on completely or a day when my class or classes are more intense then usual, it’s always nice to have some just in case. Some stretching tools such as a theraband , plumband , rollors , or ball are...

Dressing Modestly for Ballet

Dressing modestly in the ballet world- and not spending a fortune while at it- is definitely a real struggle. It was easy as a young dancer to dress modestly. Leotards were high in the front and back and skirts were appropriate length. Everything was cheap and easy to find. They even have a section at Walmart with little girl's ballet clothes. Once you start wearing women's sizes, though, everything changes. Dancewear stores aren't very common, so looking online is what most older dancers do. And then to find inexpensive, pretty, and appropriate leotards that match the dress code can take a long time. In this post I'm going to share what dressing modestly in ballet looks like, as well as some online dancewear stores you can try. Dress code is the biggest problem for a lot of dancers. Unless you can find a school who's dress code lines up with your beliefs, you've got a decision to make. If the dress code, whether for class or performances is inappropriate, don...

Summer Workshop 2022!

Summer workshop starts in five days! Today I'll be talking about what classes I'm taking, my schedules, and more.  To start with, I'll be taking ballet, conditioning, pointe, variations, contemporary, musical theatre, and partnering. I do ballet, conditioning, pointe, and partnering throughout the school year, but I only do the other ones in the summer. We have two guest artists coming, one for each week. The first one is one of my studio's founders, and one of my past instructors. She's an incredible dancer herself and one of the best teachers I've ever had. The second is a world-renowned choreographer and I couldn't be more excited to have the opportunity to be taught by him.  I'll be there for about 7 hours the first week, including a 3-hour class on Saturday. The second week I'll be there for about 12 hours each day. The reason I'm there an extra 5 hours is because I'll be teaching! I'll be assisting in two classes, and I also get t...
